Lars:
Hi everyone, we’re here at First Page HQ. I’m with Kieran, again, and we’re gonna be discussing a really interesting topic today. It’s when people go through website revamps. You know a lot of times when clients come to us and that is essentially happening, they’re losing out of SEO positionings. Why is that?
Kieran:
Well Lars, when you are doing a website revamp, you’re changing everything from content, URLs, design, picture, et cetera. All of that essentially will put your site back at zero because Google doesn’t really know where to put you anymore. Specifically from a content perspective. So by doing that, you are then just losing a lot of traffic, a lot of rankings, just because you’re starting anew.
Lars:
Of course. So like, in the event of an actual website revamp, how can I mitigate this risk of losing out on my SEO positions?
Kieran:
So, if you’re looking to so SEO yourself, then you have to make sure that the redirect from the old URL to the new URLs are done correctly. Everything on site SEOs, such as making sure the title, the meta description, et cetera is also on point with the keywords that you want actually appear on. Obviously, the best thing to do is to have an SEO consultant guiding you through that revamp because the designers are great at design, the developers are great at developing, but the only way to actually make sure that SEO is done correctly is have someone that will guide the developers in the right track.
Lars:
Well that makes a lot of sense, right? But a lot of times, some customer who come to us, the damage is already done. How do you start climbing that Mount Everest again?
Kieran:
So, if you’re a small business, again, you have to just go at it again. You have to start again from new and make sure that you implement the right strategy or tactics for SEO on your site, your blogs, et cetera is done correctly. Obviously the best way is to have an SEO company work with you from the moment you decide to do a revamp to after. If you’re coming after, then it’s just doing another SEO campaign again. Unless you actually wanna wait for a year or even more for keywords to start appearing on their own, putting you on the first page again.
Lars:
Once Google starts indexing your pages again.
Kieran:
Exactly.
Lars:
Okay, I understand. Well thanks for your time today. Come check us out again next week when we start discussing even more exciting topics that could be relevant to your business too.
